World Oceans Day
On World Oceans Day people around the planet celebrate and honor the body of water which links us all, for what it provides humans and what it represents. This year, the focus is on inspiring young people. The future of ocean conservation is in their hands!
World Oceans Day was first proposed by the Canadian government at the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. As a result of a United Nations General Assembly resolution passed in December 2008, World Oceans Day is now officially recognized as June 8th each year.
The Ocean Project and the World Ocean Network help coordinate events and activities with aquariums, zoos, museums, conservation organizations, universities, schools and businesses.
Celebrate World Oceans Day here in NC! Visit an EE Center along the coast or participate in an ocean program like the one below!
