Haw River Adventure Camp is Coming!

Haw River Assembly and Haw River Canoe and Kayak Company will host Haw River Adventure Camp!

When: June 18-22, 2012

Where: Saxapahaw, NC

Ages: 10-15 years old

Price: $200/week for half day camp*     
$275/week for full day camp*     
$20/week for shuttle service from Carrboro

Our camps give kids the opportunity to enjoy their summers outside while learning to paddle and developing a deeper connection to nature.  They are offered in two formats: half-day paddle camps and full-day adventure camps.  Both formats offer paddling instruction and exploration of the river by boat.  Group size is capped at 14 campers per week to ensure individualized attention and safety.  Camps are for children ages 10 to 15.  Campers are grouped by ability level and/or age upon arrival.

*We will not run both a half day and full day camp, we will run whichever one receives 6 registrants who pay in full first

Nature Hike for Families

Come join other families on an easy paced hike on the greenway through the wetland along Little Rock Creek. On rainy days we will meet indoors to do nature crafts and play games. Meet other families and share your love of nature. Fee applies to all participants and children must be accompanied by a paying adult. Please register at least 4 days prior to the program. Girls in Science Coastal Ed-venture

The N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences is offering a Girls in Science Coastal Ed-venture for Rising 7th and 8th grade girls this summer.  

Come explore the North Carolina's Crystal Coast! From their base at the Trinity Center, an ocean-side conference center located in Salter Path, participants will enjoy a week of coastal ed-venture.  Cruise, sail, snorkel, and learn about coastal ecology. Visit the Rachel Carson Estuarine Reserve, troll and dredge on the RV Susan Hudson with Duke Marine Lab, seine in the sounds, and swim in the sea.

Take Your Family to a State Park for a First Day Hike!

Start the New Year right with a hike at one of the our state parks.  State parks in North Carolina are creating a new tradition for New Year’s Day, offering First Day Hikes on trails across the state.

First Day Hikes guided by rangers and volunteers will be held at 27 state parks. All state parks and state recreation areas will be open on the holiday with cold-weather recreation opportunities as well as warm visitor centers with exhibit halls presenting cultural and natural history.

First Day Hikes are being promoted in North Carolina in concert with a national effort by America’s State Parks and the National Association of State Park Directors. The effort promotes a healthy lifestyle as well as appreciation of natural resources.

At the park we will hike, learn about the geology of the area and investigate the overall environment. We will see waterfalls, cliffs, and unique mountain plant life. Come on this fun trip during school break.

Ages 10-14. Group size is limited to 12 people. We provide transportation; participants must provide their own lunch, snack, water.

Camp Out-door-rageous

It is a wild world out there, but you can hike confidently through it with your out-door-rageous skills learned at our week-long coed camp.

Participants, ages 13-17, will learn activities such as fishing and cooking your catch, using a map and compass, building a primitive fire and survival shelter, knot tying, live trapping, identifying animal signs and archery. At week’s end, participants will compete in "Amazing Race" style competitions using their new outdoor skills.
